Artist: My name is Shelley Schoenherr. I live in Grosse Pointe, Michigan and was originally from rural Ohio where some of the inspiration for my landscapes is derived. My formal art education includes a Masters Degree in Fine Art in Drawing and Painting from the University of Missouri, with additional degrees and instruction in art from Stephens College, Ohio State University and Albion College.
Action: I consider what I do to be drawing... I love the pure act of drawing the sticks of color across the support, creating drama, exciting colorations, telling stories in each work and evoking emotion.
Medium: My favorite mediums are currently oil pastel and pastel on carious supports such as canvas and black charcoal paper for added drama, and sueded papers for soft, ephemeral, less detailed effects.
Intent: My intent is to tell an emotional story. Much of my work is allegorical, using my subject matter as stand-ins for persons or situations in my life. The viewer may enjoy seeing a bright lemon, wistful cat face or colorful landscape, and I assure you that there is a deeper story unfolding in each piece. I hope you enjoy finding your own stories. I welcome you to look at my work, to talk with me and to enjoy the works that I have created. |
