Kathleen Kalinowski is a West Michigan artist noted for her landscape paintings. Her love of the landscape started as a child. She grew up drawing and observing the land, filling sketchbooks and taking art classes. Kathleen is dedicated to working directly from nature, en plein air, whenever possible to record the true colors of light and shadow on canvas or paper. The time she spends outside reflects on her studio work as well. She uses the small plein air paintings in her studio as an inspiration for larger works. Kathleen has been working in oil and pastel as a full time artist for the past seventeen years. She has been accepted in several prestigious juried exhibitions around the country and her award winning work is in numerous private and corporate collections.
"When painting, I feel a personal connection with nature. I try to capture the mood, atmosphere, sounds and smells of the landscape around me. My first impression of the scene I want to paint is most important and must stimulate and excite my senses. A painting will contain all experiences past and present, passion, skill, control, and an attempt to capture a fleeting moment in time. For me, painting is my passion and a never-ending learning process and I am happy to spend my life using the gifts God has given me."
